This one-hour children’s play is a dramatization of the old tale of a magic fish, and what can happen when people are not satisfied with the good life they have. It has 5 women, ages 9 to 40; 4 men, ages 10 to 40, plus a flexible number of villagers of all ages. The play has a young protagonist, several arcs, a magic fish, spectacle, and suspense.
THE MAGIC FLOUNDER will be produced by Matchbox Children’s Theatre, Austin, MN on Feb 10-12, 2012.

12-10-11 The director of the Matchbox production, Angela Donovan, has contacted me prior to rehearsals. She plans to use the scenes with the villagers as a flexible device to give more people an opportunity to be on stage. And I love this—she intends to have the crowd of villagers grow in numbers as the hovel grows in stages to a castle. What a great idea! She’s also adding lilting Irish music and dance to the final celebratory scene. Another great idea! Seeing what a director does with a script is just about the best thing in the world.
